Francis Schaeffer is well known for his commentary of Art, Culture, and Philosophy. What he may be less known for is his support of civil disobedience in his book a Christian Manifesto. As Schaeffer stands as an important figure to most evangelicals, his teachings of the idolatry of the State in the Church was largely ignored and sadly carried out with much fervor decades after he died.

“If there is no final place for civil disobedience, then the government has been put in the place of the living God, because then you are to obey it even when it tells you in its own way at that time to worship Ceasar.”

“It is time we consciously realize that when any office commands what is contrary to God’s Law it abrogates its authority.”
